Sector specialism

HR support forlocal government.

Councils, combined authorities, arm's-length bodies, blue light services and housing associations — where the HR question always has a political and a public dimension sitting above it.

What makes this sector different

The layer above the employment issue.

Decisions are politically visible. Senior appointments, exit packages, restructures and disputes can end up in committee papers, in the local press and in FOI responses. This does not change the employment law, but it changes what good process looks like — because the process itself may be published.

The approval path is long and scheduled. Member decisions, committee cycles, statutory officer involvement and constitutional requirements all sit between a proposal and its implementation. Restructure timetables built without mapping this are routinely undeliverable.

Statutory duties layer on top. Public sector equality duty considerations, consultation obligations, and the specific requirements attaching to statutory officers all apply in addition to ordinary employment law. Advice that treats a council as a generic employer misses most of what makes the decision difficult.

Who we work with

London boroughs, county, district and unitary councils, combined authorities, arm's-length management organisations, blue light services, housing associations and other registered providers. Being London based, a good proportion of our work is with London boroughs and their ALMOs, though we deliver across the UK.

How we help

Local government HR,
both pillars.

Trade union relationships

Formal negotiation, collective consultation and repair of strained recognised union relationships.

Sector

We will be straightforward: as a young firm we are building our framework presence rather than claiming an established one. In the meantime we structure engagements to fit within your delegated authority thresholds and internal procurement rules, and we provide whatever documentation your procurement team requires.

If there is a framework you would need us to be on, tell us — it is useful intelligence and we would rather know.
